Ive never used wordpress.
I want to start a blog, will be registering a domain.

I want to put adspace on my blog, but WordPress says ads are not allowed yet? Though I see plenty of blogs with ads on them — could someone please clarify?

Essentially, I want to have my domain hosted somewhere and have a program for editing/publishing my blog

Any tips in the right direction are appreciated!

I do not want JUST adsense. I want different types of ads.. and non google-affiliated ad programs..

Google’s blogger ( blogger.com ) does let you put adsense ads.

It is better to host your own blog, to do this I would recommend buying godaddy’s economy package ( .00 /mo ), then go to wordpress.org and download the latest release. Create a database using godaddy’s menu, write down the database’s name password and location, extract the files from wordpress, change the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php with the database information, upload all the files you extracted from the download to your server and you are good to go.

Hi, I want to start a blog but I’m not sure about some things so I if someone who knows more about this could explain it to me I’d greatly appreciate it!

What is the most used platform for blogs? I wanted to get a tumblr but it’s mostly people posting pictures of stuff from what I’ve seen…are there any popular tumblrs that write more/post stuff about themselves instead of just pictures?

If I get a blog on wordpress, and I want the url to be (random example) michellesblog.com, would I have to buy that url and how would that work? Do you pay once a month or once a year or what? Also, how would I sync it with the wordpress or whatever?

How do people get their blogs to be really popular? If anyone has any tips I’d appreciate it

And lastly, I’ve heard that by putting ads on their blogs people can earn money. I’ve heard of AdSense, is there anything better than that? Also do you earn money everytime someone clicks on the ad from your blog, or just by having the ads there on your blog? What other sites are there that put ads on your site? Can you use AdSense with tumblr as well?

1. WordPress and BlogSpot are the most popular. I use BlogSpot.

2. Tumbler is for very quick blogs of short snippets of text or photos. You can use it for a full blog but it’s not very flexible. I used to use Tumblr.

3. On WordPress or BlogSpot, you get allocated an address like www.’yourname’.blogspot.com. That’s free. Once you buy a domain name, you can transfer the blog over to your domain and have whatever name you like.

4. Getting your blog to be popular is a real science. Too much to go into here. Research, and work at it. I have about 700 followers.

5. Making money – same answer.
