Okay, so I run a tutorial/blog/resource site & I noticed that when I put HTML Codes into the Text Areas in WordPress I keep seeing this

! It’s messing up the HTML Codes! So I need to know if there is a plugin, or is there something else I can try! I tried these plugins already:Wordpress Code Snippet & SyntaxHighlighter Plus, none of them work! Any tips? Thanks in advance!

If you put Html is a text box, it should work fine. You don’t need any plug-ins. Mybe somthing is wrong with the code? It is very easy for even advanced HTML users to make tag mistakes. Check ur tags with this site: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/default.asp

WP themes are built with php and some html – they are not straight html.

Question by Infam0us: Tips for an out of touch graphic/Web designer In WordPress (CMS, CSS, HTML)?
I’ve asked this question before, but this time it’s slightly different. Im very experienced in Photoshop and Flash, and I need to create a CMS based website with a great template, on an easy and user friendly platform (WordPress ?) But I dont really know anything about CMS. Im much more on the visual design side of things, but I need to learn CMS, find a good template and get a website up and running very soon. (If I can, I’ll be given a job for the company who needs the website made) Im very creative, and a very quick learner. I’ve set up a WordPress blog for the site, but I need to turn it into a website (Big banner, real navigation bar etc.) And another question about WordPress…Instead of having a ‘post’ can I have an Image instead ? I dont mean putting an image IN the post, I mean completely swapping the post for an Image, with text ON TOP of it. I understand a static page may be the answer to that question, if so, how do I create one ?

Im looking through www.w3schools.com , but I was wondering If someone could give me a few (or a lot) of handy tips to do what I need to do ? I’m thinking of using The 960 Grid System [http://960.gs/] But I have no idea how to create custom CSS. Can anyone explain to me how ?

Im sure I sound like a complete idiot, but I’ve only ever coded layouts and flash for MySpace (which is completely different) And, as far as I know ‘Not even real HTML’ However I was really good at that, and I learnt it all by myself, which is what got me into graphic design years ago.

Are you really set on using WordPress? Because it sounds like you’re new to CMS so you’re probably open to other ideas.

WordPress can be used like a CMS, but as you’ve found out, it mostly a framework to create a blogging web site.

If you want something that has more features, I’d suggest either Joomla or Drupal, both are also free.
There’s a lot of debate between these two. They both have their strengths. A lot of people like Drupal because it has better management tools and is more flexible for custom changes.
But Joomla’s strength is that it has a lot of templates you can use very easily. And it sounds like that’s what you want, so I’d suggest checking out Joomla.
And both also do blogging if you still want to create a blog site.

The w3schools site is a good place to learn CSS. But there is no quick and easy way to master CSS. Learn the concepts and basics of CSS–how to use is, the syntax, and structure, defining classes, selectors, etc. That’s the easy part and absolutely essential what you need to know.

All the other style properties you can learn as you need them. You don’t need to learn all of it. That’s what references are for.
Once you’ve learned the basics of how to form CSS properties, here’s a good CSS reference site to look up properites:

The hardest part to CSS, any part of Web Design, isn’t the languages, but know how each of the different browsers behave so you can manipulate your markup to work correctly on all browsers.
That sitepoint reference site lists each properties and how compatibility the browsers are with them.

One important concept to understand is the “Box Model” and how different browsers handle them. Understanding that will save you a lot of frustration.
